Canine Depression And Treating The Doggy Blues

Pets are also prone to depression like some people and more likely that it can happen to dogs that can be too emotional. Dogs that are depressed shows loss of appetite, laziness, weight loss, anxiousness and are sleeping too much. There are many causes of depression that you may want to know as a pet parent in order for you to understand the real problem. Remedies could take on different forms and all of it is pretty easy and simple.

Causes of Depression

Dogs suffer from depression brought by different things and in fact, these may be of the same reason that people do. If it is easy for you to identify those things that cause frustration, you can also determine what causes the dog's depression. The first and the most difficult culprit is illness. When a dog is not feeling well, they appear to be down at all times. They will just lie in a corner and refuse to join any activities that they used to enjoy before.

One of the ultimate wishes of dogs is stability or for things to stay as it is. If things around them have changed, they can be anxious about it before they can fully adjust themselves. Examples of changes that can cause an emotional loop for dogs are change of residence, a divorce, change of schedule and adding a new pet in the house. Loss can also turn their world upside down. If people found death or parting to be devastating moment of their life, it is also heartbreaking for dogs.

How to Treat Depression on Dog

Treating a dog in despair can be a very simple task. There can be times when dogs won't require healing from the depression as they are able to bounce back on their own. Since every grieving or suffering soul needs a helping hand, your presence and understanding is utmost needed. You can totally bring them back to their usual selves or at least help to ease the pain that they are feeling but first, you would have to determine the cause of their dilemma so that it will give you an idea on where to start.

Dogs love so much attention from their pet parents and this is the key for their recovery from depression. You can try to play with them or do something they love to cheer them up. If they tend to ignore or they still feel heavy to do different things, you can just rely on the power of snuggling. Take the time to sit beside them for a gentle petting and a playful cuddle. Once he showed some sign of improvement, give him a reward for it. In case that your dog remained to be the same for days, call a veterinarian or a canine psychiatrist for assistance.
