Trick Your Metabolism So That Your Weight Loss Won't Hit A Plateau

By Jonas Varig

If you're like the majority of the people out there, you will have tried a number of different diets and achieved a different degree of successes. You could have lost some weight but you generally get to a certain point and then nothing you do can help you shed more. The plateau thing is in fact fairly common--it is something that people deal with regardless of what diet plan they follow. There isn't a way of avoiding this plateau if you don't trick your metabolism.

You most likely have already hit the plateau at least once--in fact, it has most likely caused a frustrating end to more than one diet program. This is an unusual thing that happens to even the most successful dieters sometime close to the third or fourth week of the diet they have selected. Until that point the weight seems to come off with no problems and then it just quits and nothing really works to help the body shed more pounds. This is how your body responds to all of the changes you have been forcing upon it. Your body decreases your rate of metabolism when you arrive at this point as it wants to protect you from accidental starvation. What this ultimately ends up doing is keeping your body from shedding any more weight.

This is what makes people believe that they simply aren't capable of hitting their weight loss targets and they throw in the towel. At this point they return to eating, and putting on their excess weight back plus even more than they lost usually. The way to avoid this is to pick a diet in which you just shift your calories. What you really are trying to do is eat a different number of calories daily, which is meant to trick your metabolism. If this works on your body it is not going to enter "protective" mode. This will keep your body's metabolism rolling at its current rate rather than slowing down and you'll continue losing pounds. Once you reach this point, you have passed the plateau and your diet will keep working the way it was made to.

It is very simple to integrate this type of plan into your day to day life. Probably the most popular method of caloric cycling is the 14 day method. This program goes for 14 days: you do typical things for the first eleven and then during the last three you eat anything you want. You move your foods throughout the day, fooling your metabolism, and for three day eat what you want, avoiding the plateau. This could also help you from getting frustrated with a rigid diet routine. You could keep repeating these 14 days until you feel happy with the amount of weight you have lost.

The 2 day plan is one other way, where you eat regularly for one day, and the other day you cut your calories by 20% to 35%. Continue repeating the process for as long as it takes you to reach a satisfactory level of weight loss. It is a program that you have to try, since it could be exactly what can get you past your plateau, to where you will shed all the weight you want.
